Inputting information is one of the functions of the keyboard.
Information is input in forms of words and numbers; the input is then
transmitted to the computer and may also be displayed on the monitor. A
keyboard is the basic unit for entering data for coding program instructions.
When using keyboard
input the user depresses a key, which generates an electronic signal that is
interpreted by the transducer in the keyboard and translated into the bit
pattern of the corresponding ASCII code.
A computer keyboard is used much like the keys on a
typewriter. There are usually 102 keys on a standard keyboard. However nowadays
the number of keys on a keyboard varies
and depends on the manufacturer. Unlike a typewriter, which records the typed
data on paper, each character keyed in
is store in the computer memory.

used to control and edit the display. There are generally four groups of keys
on a computer keyboard.
